Summer Blasted

Larry Houck has taken a job in new Mexico. The staff has decided not to continue the match without him.

But, York pistol has the weekend still and we are going to use it. We have a couple of really interesting possibilities so stay tuned and keep that weekend free. July 8-12.

A cold day at the range beats a warm day at work!

We had 37 shooters show up today, despite the mini blizzard that occurred when most of them were on their way. Things warmed a while, and chilled a while, but I believe a good time was had by all, even those who got beat by a 10 year old girl! Way to shoot Rachael! The top score was only 7 points from max, guess I'll have to make it harder. Scores will be mailed to participants soon, and posted as soon as I figure out where the 2009 schedule is. Stay tuned.

If you didn't show 'cuz you couldn't get your lazy self off the couch, shame on you. Remember, we do this the 4th Sat of every month of the season. For e-mail reminders, contact me at iwlafunshoot1@comcast.net.

Here are a few pics, from a borrowed camera.

Changing of the guard in the "house".

This is what it is all about, Grandfather passing on to the granddaughter, and the girl can shoot.

Strategy?

One of the "fields of steel".

Father, daughter, son, and a bunch of shooters, tearin' it up on bulles-eye. This is really an event for the whole family. Where is Mom?!

This really is cool. More and more we are getting neat toys showing up. If you double click on this one, and enlarge a bit, you will see a suppressor hanging on the end of this pistol. This sort of behavior is highly encouraged!
See you next month.

Funshoot, funshoot, funshoot

The first Funshoot of the year will be next Saturday Jan 24. Assuming the weather cooperates, we will be shooting a short version, with some of the steel that those wonderfull IPSC folks left out for us in the back, Choose your own Clays, PPC and Bulles-eye paper. All you need is a pistol that can hold 6 rounds of standard velocity pistol (no .17whatever MMR or 7.62 X 25 Tokarov type things), $10 and a safe attitude. Setup at 10:00a, shooting at 11:00a. There will be cold drinks and dogs. Bring your own hot drinks, or supplies for the microwave. For more, drop me a line iwlafunshoot1@comcast.net .

see you on the range

And then they were (not so) cold

The weather turned out much better than expected, and we had a good time. 8 shoters and 2 spectators showed, we set some, ok lots of, steel and we shot at it. We had a mini PSSA going on, it was grand.

Pistols, 3 shotguns and a supressed carbine showed, and lots of steel fell.

Unfortunatly, my camera doesn't like the cold much either, so I can't show you the pics of shooters freezing, a father and son duel on the Man-to-man steel, shotguns making quick work of arrays, a carbine doing the plate rack in less than 2 seconds, or Dominating Dave beating himself on the Man-to-man stage with dueling shotguns. You had to be there to believe it. Time for a new camera...

See you next time.

Remember, funshoot in 2 weeks

I got a plan

Although I may regret it....

The weather weenies can't seem to come to a consensus, nor stick to a story, so here is what I'm a gonna' do.

Tomorrow at High Noon, I will be sitting in my nice warm car at the gate of the back pits. If folks show up to brave the cold, we'll shoot something until we get tired of the cold (it could be interesting with all the steel frozen in place). If no one shows, which is ok too, I'll leave at 12:15p, go home, lite a fire and take a nap. Don't feel obligated to show up if you are a fair weather shooter. I only live 15 minutes from the range, so it's no big deal for me to be there.

Remember, you can bring whatever, pistol, pistol carbine, .22 pistol or shotgun (7.5 and smaller), as long as it is safe for our steel. If you want to play with rifle, you are on your own up front (for club members only!). Tomorrow is unplanned playtime with our comrades in arms, a few rounds, a few laughs; no formal stages, no scoring. We will setup something we make up on the spot at noon, then shoot it, or a couple of its. There is no plan, but for some vague ideas. If we get a crowd, I'll charge $5 for maintenance on the steel, and some clays.

Remember, I will not have food or hot drinks, so bring your own supplies.

If you don't make it, don't fret, my Funshoot is only 2 weeks away, and you can come freeeeez there. I'll post about that in a week or so.

If you want to email me for whatever, I will check this eve, and tomorrow before I leave for the range, several times. iwlafunshoot1@comcast.net

cheers

I wish I was a weatherman

I wish I was a weatherman. What else can you do that you can be right 50% of the time and get paid either way? Well, they're forecasting higher temperatures. Ones that we find acceptable (low to mid 30s or better) but they are calling for 8" of snow at the range Saturday.

So, if we get the snow we're cancelling, but if we don't get any signifigant amount of snow we're shooting. Gary will make that call between 3:00pm and 5:00pm Saturday. Check back here to see, if you're still interested.

We have decided if we shoot it will be OK to use pistols, pistol caliber carbines, shotguns with bird shot smaller than 7.5 and 22 pistols. Basically anything that won't hurt our steel is fine. If you're not sure ask us.

By the way, when I say "we're" shooting, it doesn't include Ben or I, we're going to Tennessee to root on the Ravens.

Happy New Year!

And Happy New Shooting Season too! We're gearing up in York for another great season and we're ready. On Sunday, January 11th we are planning our first shoot of the year. I have to warn you it is not a USPSA match. Instead we'll set up several pits with different steel arrays. One pit will have a man-on-man steel set-up. Another will have an all steel USPSA stage. We'll have our plate rack in another, and we still have more steel and more ideas if the weather and the turnout dictate more. We're going to keep the entry fee an incredibly low $5 per shooter, but we expect everyone to help us set this up. (Some of it is already done)

So, here's the plan: Be at the club on Sunday January 11th at 12:00pm with cash in hand, work gloves, and a boatload of ammo. As soon as we have everything set up we'll shoot until we're done. No scoresheets, no results, just an opportunity to get back together and blow the rust out of our barrels. Trust me when I tell you you will get your money's worth. We've done this before and ammo is your only limitation. The man-on-man is voluntary and if you feel like challenging someone please do. We have a handicapping system in mind so anyone can shoot against anyone esle and it should be pretty fair. If the weather cooperates this should be a lot of fun.

Check back here Saturday after 3:00pm and I'll have the final word on the weather forecast. If it looks good we're on. If it is calling for terrible weather or ridiculous cold we'll cancel.

Hope to see you soon.
