2014 FNH Rules Quiz #2

This self graded quiz is intended for all staff of the 2014 FNH Championships as well as the regular staff and shooters of York Izaak Walton.  No only will studying the rules make you a better RO it will help you to be a safer shooter.

Use the rules to help you.  Link to rules:http://www.lchico5u.com/FNH3G/Rules.pdf

Do not use the 2013 rules.  A lot has changed.

Make the call, and cite the applicable rule for each scenario, then check the comments to see the answers.  If you would like more clarification comment and ask.

Don't just guess or think about last year.  A lot of things are different this year.  Take the time to find the right rule.  People pay a lot of money to prepare for, get to, stay at, and shoot this match.  It is our obligation to do the best job we can do.

#1 The shooter mistakenly shoots a piece of steel with a slug where he should have used shot.  The distance to the steel was only 11 yards.  What is the penalty?

#2  Can a shooter stage ammo?

#3 The shooter has an accidental discharge during a reload.  What is the penalty?

#4 The shooter puts his shotgun in the designated long gun bunker, but he does so muzzle up (yeah, this actually happened last year).  What is the penalty?

#5  The shooter's unloaded pistol falls from his holster retying his shoelaces while he is on deck. What is the penalty?

#6 The shooter doesn't like the call the RO has made and the CRO confirms.  What is his recourse?

#7  The shooter has a 1-4x scope on his rifle for the pit stages, but when he gets up on the hill he decides to unmount the 1-4x and mount and use his pre-zeroed 4-12x.  Is this allowed?

#8 The shooter bunkers his loaded rifle in a designated grounding container muzzle down, but the RO upon checking it finds the safety in between "safe" and "fire", and it's not clear whether it is on "safe" or not.  What should he do?

Good luck, Howard

August FunShoot!

This coming Saturday, August 23rd, York IWLA presents its monthly FunShoot.

Thanks to the uprising in attendance in the last couple of months, you have forced me to build another real stage. So, hopefully the weather will cooperate, and not bake us too hard, as we engage a hanging steel stage in pit 1, a twist to bullseye in pit 2, 4 modified stages from the last action match and our favorite August stage RED DAWN! Those of you who know this stage will welcome it back, those that don't can probably guess (if you know me well enough). There will be a total of 7 stages, with a target count of 100-125.  Round count is entirely up to you, you can shoot them all, or just the easy ones.

I envision the following guns, pistol, shotgun and pistol caliber carbine (.22lr too), in any combination, with a pistol only optionThere will be stage descriptions for those in need, and the usual scoring options of points, timed or IDC will be in place.

Setup/registration starting long about 8am, shooting brief by 8:45am shooting as soon as I can get it going.

Fee is $20 for adults, $5 for those under 18.

We require chamber flags for long guns, and we will definitely have them for sale if you need them.

Preregistration is not mandatory, but it is extremely helpful, at yorksignup@gmail.com.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! Our October shoot (Oct 25th) is our annual Halloween costume shoot.  It is a lot of fun and silliness for the trick-or-treater in all of us.  Please plan on attending in costume if at all possible.  With that in mind, we will be forming a squad of Zoot Shooters! and following their protocols. This is similar to cowboy Action shooting, except that is is set in the Roaring 20's-40's, with only period dress and firearms (1950's and earlier) allowed.  For more info, goto http://www.zootshooters.com/
thanks
g

This has the potential of being a lot of fun.  Plan on it.

2104 FNH Rules quiz #1

This self graded quiz is intended for all staff of the 2014 FNH Championships as well as the regular staff and shooters of York Izaak Walton.  No only will studying the rules make you a better RO it will help you to be a safer shooter.

Use the rules to help you.  Link to rules: http://www.lchico5u.com/FNH3G/Rules.pdf

Do not use the 2013 rules.  A lot has changed.

Good luck, Howard

1. A shooter engages 8 plates with a shotgun, then to unload fires the last shot in the gun at the area where the plates were, but are no longer.  What if any is the penalty?

2. Removed.

3. Removed.

4. What is the penalty if any for distracting another shooter?  What if the guy was trying to help?

5. A shooter grounds his rifle in a safe manner on the table he picked it up from instead of the supplied long gun bunker.  No one is able to go downrange of it.  What is the penalty if any?

6. A shooter has stippled his handgun grips, ground out the area around his shotgun loading port, and milled a dovetail in the rib of his shotgun to insert a rear sight.  He has also installed barricade stops on his rifle and installed sling mounts on both his rifle and shotgun.  Do any of these modifications violate rule #5.3.1?

7. A shooter draws his handgun, which has magazine inserted and slide forward on an empty chamber at the start, during a course of fire, decides not to use it, does not rack the slide, and reholsters it without dropping the mag first.  What is the penalty if any?

8. A shooter sees that a claybird has a grey mark on the edge of a clay that the RO has called an un-hit target.  He argues that the mark is obviously caused by shot.  What is the correct call?

Results are up

Results for the August action matches are available.

Front pit match

Back Pit match

Sorry for the delay.  There were some technical difficulties with the back pit scores.  Although they are correct as far as placement, some of them do not have the penalties broken down as such.  The final times are correct.

Next month on September 14th, we will be hosting a Blasphemous Steel match which is our version of the Steel Challenge.   You can shoot it pretty much like a standard steel challenge, or you can use our twisted method which allows for a two or three gun option.  We will likely only run 5 stages with a maximimum of 12 shooters per squad, and this match will fill up very quickly.  Expect to see the invite here on this blog on September 7th and follow the instructions carefully.

Thanks for coming out yesterday, especially those of you who showed up early to help set up, and stayed late to help tear down.

August Action Matches

On Sunday, August 10th we are going to host a 5 stage action match in the back pits, and a 4 stage action match up front at York Izaak Walton. There will be two time slots available for this match. We will finish setting up at 7:30am and we appreciate your help. Registration for the morning time slot will be from 8:00 until 9:00. Mandatory match briefing will be at 9:15 and we will start shooting at 9:30. Registration for the afternoon time slot will be from 12:00 until 12:30. Mandatory match briefing will be at 12:45 and we will start shooting at 1:00pm. You will be able to shoot the front pits match in the AM and the back pits match in the PM, or vice versa. You may not shoot the same match twice.

yorksignup@gmail.com is the email you should use to sign up for this match.  It does not work as a link with some computers.  You may have to cut and paste it, or type it in manually.

There will be 3 options for the back pits action match:
    1. You may shoot this match with Pistol only. A minimum of 135 rounds will be required. The cost will be $20.  To sign up for this option email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and tell us your name, "Pistol only", AM or PM, division, and anyone you would like to be squadded with.
Pistol Divisions:
- Open
- Limited
- Production (10 round mag limit)
- L10
- Single Stack
- Revolver.

    2. You may shoot this 5 stage match with a shotgun and a pistol as a multigun match. Minimums of 65 of shot (7.5 or 8 only please) and 70 pistol rounds will be required. The cost will be $20 for the back pits multi-gun match. To sign up for this option email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and tell us your name, "Shotgun/pistol multigun", AM or PM, division, and anyone you would like to be squadded with.
Multi-gun Divisions:
- Limited (There is no Tac Ops when there is no rifle involved)
- Open

3.You may shoot this match with Carbine only. A minimum of 135 rounds will be required. For the purposes of this match Carbine is pistol caliber only.  9mm, 40, 45, or 22lr.  We will be shooting steel at 10 yards so 223/5.56 will not work.  The cost will be $20.  To sign up for this option email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and tell us your name, "Carbine only", AM or PM, division, and anyone you would like to be squadded with.
Carbine Only Divisions
- SCCAR - scoped (either magnified or non) & no more than 30 rounds after start signal
- ISCAR - iron sights (no glass) & no more than 30 rounds after start signal
- OPENCAR - more than one optic, and/or more than 30 rounds after start signal

The front pit Multigun match:
Will require a rifle and a shotgun. You will not be able to shoot it with just a pistol because there will be targets that are just too far to shoot with a pistol. You also can't shoot with just a rifle because of the close range steel that must be engaged with a pistol. Rifle must be 223 or larger and you may not use 62 gr. penetrator, green tip, AP, API , or bi-metal bullets, steel cased ammo, or anything a magnet is attracted to including Hornady Steel Match.  If you're not sure please ask before the match starts. If you are found on any of ranges with contraband ammo the penalty is a Match DQ.  No exceptions.   Round counts are not set yet but expect somewhere in the neighborhood of a minimum of 50 shot (7.5 or 8 only please), maybe a few slugs, and 70 or so rifle rounds to be required.  The fee for the front pit match will be $20. To sign up for this option email us at yorksignup@gmail.com and tell us your name, "rifle/shotgun multigun", AM or PM, division, and anyone you would like to be squadded with.
Rifle/Shotgun Divisons
- TO - Tactical Scoped
- Lim - No magnification
- Open

None of these matches will be for prizes.  All will be scored time plus and we will use the 2014 FNH rules with added pistol divisions for Production, Single Stack, L10 and Revolver.
If you are shooting both the front pits match, and back pits match, and don't really care what order you do it in you don't have to put any time slots down. It is actually beneficial to us for squadding if you don't.

This match will fill quickly. Do not hesitate to get signed up. You should receive a confirmation email from us within a day or two. If for some reason you have signed up but will not be able to make it to the match please let us know. Persistent no-shows will not be invited to shoot in the future.

If you have any questions you may email me at hkbrt@verizon.net
