3 Gun Classes. Is there interest?

We are considering doing a 3 gun class (or two) at York Izaak Walton the weekend of July 30th and 31st.  We're not sure how to make the best use of the available range time.

We have 3 options at this point, but we need to make a decision soon.  They are:

A. 2 day Intro class.  $250.  10 hours plus instruction on the basics. 10 students max.  We would work on sight-ins, loading, chokes, equipment issues, surviving stages and matches.  All three guns, and transitioning from one to the next.  Equipment would be recommended but not needed.   For those just getting started or with only a match or two under their belt.

B. 2 day Intermediate class.  $250.  10 hours plus instruction on more advanced stuff.  10 students max.  Working primarily on stage break down, speed and efficiency.  Things to avoid and things to do when shooting stages and matches.  This class would be about finding out where the time is that separates you from the guys at the top.  You would definitely want your own equipment for this class.   For those who have shot more than a few matches.

C. A single day intro class on one day ($150), and a single day intermediate class on the other ($150).  Both would be held to 10 students max.  I don't think there's anyone who would benefit from from both classes so close together.

We will be selective in choosing students so classes are balanced.  Students benefit is everyone is roughly on the same page.

If you're interested in a class please email me at hkbrt@verizon.net and tell me what you think you would be interested in.  When we have reached a decision I will let you know and send you an application if needed.

April FunShoot

This Saturday, the 16th of April, 2016, we will be hosting a 5 stage FunShoot.

Last months experiment worked very well, so this month, we do more of the same. You can run any one or combination of two of the following guns, standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine or shotgun (7 1/2 shot lead or smaller only please). There will not be a 3 gun option.

This one will be carbine friendly, I will be probably be running mine almost exclusively. Shotguns will have some fun too, so don't discount that. We have a new stage treat, we get to use a prop many of you have been looking at and wishing for.......
and there will be the option of a little more movement than usual, but it will NOT be mandatory.

As a reminder, pistol caliber carbine means any standard velocity pistol caliber, in a small rifle platform; .22LR, 9mm, .357, .40, .45 and 300 BO subsonic and the like.  No high power.

Target count will be 100+, mostly steel.

Final setup and registration at 8am, safety brief at 8:45, shooting close to 9am.
Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for those lucky enough to be under 18 years.

There will be a setup for this Friday afternoon, email me if you are interested in helping out. This usually takes about an hour to put the final touches on, so if you have to take off work or travel far, please do not put yourself out.

As always, York is a cold range, all firearms will remain unloaded until the shooter is at the firing line and directed to do so.

Conceal carry is forbidden at this event.

That being said, you can carry your unloaded firearm around the range holstered, boxed, bagged, carted or in a sock.  Long guns require a chamber flag, and they will be for sale. You can load magazines and carry them just don't put them in the gun.

Bring family and friends, we are very new shooter and kid friendly. Spectators are welcome!

Everyone on the range MUST wear eye and ear protection. We will be shooting steel, and it creates shrapnel, little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion.

For questions, please feel free to comment here, or email me at ghswope@gmail.com

April Action Match Results

I apologize for posting this so late.  We had results by 4:30 and loaded them to Practiscore immediately.   Satisfied that my job was done, I had dinner, and spent some time with my family.  A few minutes ago I realized I hadn't put this link up.

https://practiscore.com/results/18508

If you ever go directly to look for results remember that the first word of any of our monthly matches is "York".  If you search for that word our results always come up.  June may be an exception to that.  I don't know yet.

Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot today, and especially the people who helped set up and tear down.

April Action Match

Weather?  We shoot in all kinds of weather.  Ask the brave souls who shot in rain for hours last month.  If it snows Saturday we will shoot Sunday.  The most likely forecast is for a maximum of 1-3" Saturday which should not even lay on the roads.  Even in a worst case scenario the roads should be bare by Sunday.  We will start on time Sunday.  If there is snow on the ground you should wear boots or more aggressive tread on your running shoes.  Maybe you have to move a little slower.  It is likely temperatures are in the 40's Sunday so dress accordingly.

That being said I think some of the weather men are sensationalizing and everything will be fine.

A new record!  The match filled in less than 3 hours. You may still email to request a slot, but it is extremely likely you'll be placed on our waiting list.

If you're in, you should have received an email stating that.  If not you'll be getting one telling you where you are on the waiting list.

If you got in, but need to drop out for some reason I must know by midnight Thursday night or you will be counted as a no-show.  You don't want to be on that list.

If you're on the waiting list you will be notified as soon as possible if you get in.

Some of you may be wondering why we limit how many people can shoot.  We have chosen to hold squad size to 10 people.  We actually sign up a few extra knowing there will be no-shows.  Our last match took more than 7 hours.  I was the last one out at after 5:00 pm (we started shooting on time at 9:00 am).  There was rain and it was the first match of the year, but we still would have been around 3:00 or later getting done if everything went well.  More people would mean matches longer than that and at that point I'm not sure they're fun anymore.  You have to draw the line somewhere.  We run a high quality match and draw shooters from several states for our monthly matches.  We are not prepared to give up quality for quantity.

We will be hosting our April action match sponsored by Geissele Geissele Automatics | Quality Triggers for the Warfighter and Competitor on Sunday, April 10th.  It will be 6 stages and all 3 guns will be used.  We will be using slugs and rifle slings this match, and we do expect to use most of, if not all, of the 200 yards available on the rifle range.  The match fee will be $30.

The match day schedule is as follows:
7:30 finish set up (help is always appreciated)
8:00 registration begins
8:30 registration ends (anyone arriving after 8:30 is a spectator)
8:45 mandatory match briefing
9:00 shooting begins
To sign up for this match email us at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, division, and squad requests.  You should receive a confirmation within a day or two.

Don't take too long to sign up.  We do have a maximum number of shooters we will take for each of our matches and we do expect the matches to fill quickly.  Conversely, don't sign up if you don't intend to shoot, and if something comes up and you're not going to make it please let us know as soon as possible.  People who persist in not showing up after signing up will not be invited back.  We want to benefit as many shooters as possible this year.
