November 2016 FunShoot? Why not?

There will be a brief setup, Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm. It won't take long, or be complicated.
thanks

g

I sat for the last 36 hours or so listening to the wind howl, looking at frozen water and snow, and looking for inside jobs to keep me from venturing out, I thought "what a better time to have a FunShoot!"
Yes, its a holiday weekend, the first day of deer rifle in Md, and if I read it right, it is the last day for bow in parts of Pa. I'm gonna be on the range anyway, so I though I'd invite a few friends. The weather is looking much milder by then, well relatively speaking, it is the end of November after all.

Read below for the usual boilerplate. See some of you this Saturday the 26th.

On any stage, you can run any one or combination of two of the following guns; standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine or shotgun (7 1/2 shot or smaller). You may bring all 3 to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns max per stage.

Target count will be around 100 targets. There will be some movement required of the shooter, but not a ton.
This is a free form shoot. I will present shooters with targets, it is up to the shooter to decide how best to engage them, as long as it is done in a safe manner.

Registration is from 8-8:30am, safety brief at 8:45, shooting close to 9am, we should be done by 1pm-ish
Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for kids under 18.

There will be a setup for this Friday afternoon, the 25th at some point, and it will be short. Email me if you are interested in helping out, it will take less than an hour, and I will post the time here Thursday evening.

York is a cold range. Unloaded firearms are carried around the range holstered, boxed, bagged, carted or in a sock. Long guns require a chamber flag, and they will be for sale. There is no carrying of loaded firearms, open or concealed.

Bring family and friends, we are very new shooter and kid friendly. Spectators are welcome!
Everyone on the range MUST wear eye protection. We will be shooting steel, and it creates shrapnel, little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion.

November results are up!

Well, they've been up since about 2:00, maybe earlier.  Remember when you go to practiscore to look for our results the word "York" is always in the title.  Usually first.

Here's the link https://practiscore.com/results/new/28416

Thanks for coming out this year.  Keep an eye on this blog for our activities.  We don't shoot much over the winter but if the weather is unseasonably nice you never know what we might do.

The best practice is to subscribe, follow, or join this blog.  We don't use it for much else so you won't be getting a lot of emails, but you will get timely notices of match announcements, results, and application releases for our Point Series, MAMGC, and Team three gun.

November 3 gun match, well, kind of...

Sunday, November 13th we will be having our monthly match.  However, being it's towards the end of the year we're going to tone it down a little.  We're going to have 6 stages like normal and a round count of 150-200 rounds, but this time we're going to limit the shooting to pistol caliber carbine or pistol.  One gun.  No provision for multi-gun.  No provision for shotgun or rifle.  We will use the same rules as usual, more or less, and it will be timed and scored, but it will likely be a little more relaxed than usual.  The match fee will be $30.

The match day schedule is as follows:
7:30 finish set up (help is always appreciated)
8:00 registration begins
8:30 registration ends (anyone arriving after 8:30 is a spectator)
8:45 mandatory match briefing
9:00 shooting begins

The divisions will be:
PCC Lim - like our rifle rules for Lim.  One optic with no magnification, 30 round mags after         the start signal, etc.
PCC TO - like our rifle rules for TO.  One optic, magnification allowed, 30 round mags after         the start signal, etc.
PCC Open - like our rifle rules for Open. Multiple optics, unlimited magazine capacity.

Pro - Think USPSA Production pistol.  Safe Action, DA, semis with 10 round mag limit.
Limited - Think USPSA Limited without the power factor.
Open - Think USPSA Open without the power factor.

Others?  If you see a niche you want a division for let me know.

As we always do for the 3 gun matches we will start sign up at 6:00 pm Sunday the week before.  (November 6th).   Email me at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, division, and anyone you would like to be squadded with.

2016 3M3G Results

The results are up.  They've actually been up since about 3:00 pm.  We're getting pretty good at posting them from the range and they are usually posted within a half hour of last shot.  Always search for the word "York".  This month they are "2016 York 3M3G" and they are available at https://practiscore.com/results/new/27262

Congratulations to match winners Rich Yoder, Buddy Knight and Kevin Downing from Team Sensibly Armed on their impressive victory, and many thanks to all of you who competed today.

We got a lot of people telling us how much fun this match was, and we're considering doing more than one team match next year.

Meanwhile, we have one more match left in 2016.  It will be Sunday, November 13th and it will be very pistol caliber carbine friendly.  You will be able to shoot the entire match with PCC only if you like, and we are encouraging that behavior.  We haven't worked out all the details yet, but I expect you will be able to shoot it pistol only too.  We doubt there will be provisions for rifle, shotgun, or shooting more than one gun, but we're still working out the details.  Check back here around 11/3 to get the information and be prepared to sign up on 11/6 at 6:00 pm.

October 16th 3 Man 3 Gun

Contact me if you have any questions.

Everyone on the range MUST wear eye protection. We will be shooting steel, and it creates shrapnel, little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion.

This will also be the last FunShoot chance to buy raffle tickets to support 31 Heroes,  www.31heroes.org.  This is an exceptional organization that supports veterans that suffer from TBI and PTSD.   What makes this one better than the rest is that 100% of the money goes to the cause, there are no administrative costs. This is a volunteer organization, run by some of the best in our sport.
The raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20 and the prize is a very special Sig Sauer 226 MK25 with 31 Heroes markings and the SEAL anchor.  The MK25 is the pistol carried by SEALS and has special features, including a longer barrel, and light rail.  Only 31 of these special edition pistols were made for 31 Heroes.
We are honored to have one to raffle off and we want to really make some money for this group and the people they can help.  The pistol will be on display Saturday.  Please be generous.  The pistol is cool, but it's really about making a difference for veterans who deserve our help.

September 3 Gun match

Match is now full.  Amazingly it took 4 days to fill this one.  Historically things do tend to slack up towards the end of the season.

Sign up for our September 3 Gun Match has started, and if you're late there are still slots left as of now.

We will be hosting our September 3 Gun Match on Sunday, September 11th.  It will be 6 stages and all 3 guns will be used.  We will be using slugs, rifle and shotgun slings this match, and we do expect to use most of, if not all, of the 200 yards available on the rifle range.  The match fee will be $30.
The match day schedule is as follows:
7:30 finish set up (help is always appreciated)
8:00 registration begins
8:30 registration ends (anyone arriving after 8:30 is a spectator)
8:45 mandatory match briefing
9:00 shooting begins
The rules we will be using this version of the 2016 FN Rules.  You may find them at http://nebula.wsimg.com/5e96a97e441b0f52e6a0e8c4950426be?AccessKeyId=AA5794DCCFFD38D924E2&disposition=0&alloworigin=1
To sign up for this match email us at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, division, and squad requests.  You should receive a confirmation within a day or two.

Don't take too long to sign up.  We do have a maximum number of shooters we will take for each of our matches and we do expect the matches to fill quickly.  Conversely, don't sign up if you don't intend to shoot, and if something comes up and you're not going to make it please let us know as soon as possible.  People who persist in not showing up after signing up will not be invited back.  We want to benefit as many shooters as possible this year.

Also, of possible interest:  The application for the October 16th, 3 man 3 gun is available. The link to that application ishttp://tinyurl.com/york3MT3G. We are accepting applications for this match immediately.  Mail it or bring it to the match with you.  There will not be a regular 3 gun match in October.  We switched out our October 9th date due to 3GN nationals and USPSA nationals.
If you can't get a team together let me know.  I always have a list of people looking for teammates.

New accessory warning

So I just found out about this thing: https://www.stagezeroshooting.com/shop/ar15-accessories/magazines/mbx-extreme-ar-basepads-coupler-stabilizer/ And it is really cool, but let me warn you: If you use it as a supporting device in any division other than Open (like use it to shoot prone off of) you will be moved to Open at York or FN.

You will not be able to use it at the start either.  All of the descriptions say "gun lying flat on staging table".  Up on this thing is not flat.  If the RO tells you no, and he should, that is cool.  If somehow you get away with it and I find out I will add a 60 second penalty to your time for violating rule 6.1.10.2 "If it is determined by the Range Master that a participant started a stage in a position other than that as stated in the stage description, a procedural penalty shall be applied and if the opinion of the range master a competitive advantage was gained a 60 second procedural penalty shall be applied. Either penalty shall be applied without consideration of the participant being given a reshoot."

I may also tell you that stages will be designed so there is no advantage to magazines over 30 rounds in rifles.  Either they will require far less, or have plenty of time to do a reload without any disadvantage.

Spend your money on practice ammo instead.

And spread the word to your friends.  I don't want a lot of disappointed people at our matches.

First Aid and CPR Training

For the past few months I’ve been working to set up some First Aid training at the club, and we finally have a date for the first session.

On Sunday August 7, IWLA will be hosting training classes inBasic First Aid and CPR/AED.  Both classes are American Heart Association certified and being presented by Bob Ganoe.  The cost for both classes will be $40.   This should cover the cost of course materials, certificates, refreshments, and lunch.

Basic First Aid and CPR/AED courses are four hours each.   We plan to hold BFA from 8am to Noon and CPR/AED from 1pm to 5pm, with an hour break for lunch.  All classes will be held at the Trap House.

Class size is limited to 6 people.  Additional classes may be scheduled in the future depending on interest.   If interested please contact Greg Senft at gbs702@comcast.net or 410-215-7140.

Also note that I am working with Bob to set up a Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) presentation.  This course was developed by Bob, so it does not include a certification.  It focuses on first aid for combat injuries such as gunshots.  This would be a 2-3 hour lecture with class size limited to 12 people.  Although knowledge of Basic First Aid is recommended, it is not required.   More information will follow on this course in coming weeks.

FN Set up August 21st

If anyone is interested in going to Peacemaker for set up on August 21st please let me know.  You do not have to be FN staff or even be shooting the match.

We'll be starting out there about 9:00 am and working until 4:00 pm or so at the latest.  We're setting up some stages in advance, stapling targets, moving some stuff around and preparing for the main set up on the 27th and 28th. I won't work anyone to death.  A lot of what we'll do is planning and measuring for the following weekend.

If you'd like to ride along in my truck I'll have a seat for you.

Benefits:
- If you're shooting you'll see the stages before anyone else, and have some input into their design.
- For every 1/2 day worked you get an entry into the staff drawing for several guns.
- If you've never been to Peacemaker it's worth seeing.
- It'll be good practice setting up a match.
- I'll buy you lunch, maybe dinner, water, gatorade, maybe even beer.
- I'll tell you the secret of 3 gun on the way back.  The one Greg told Kevin.
- I don't forget people who help me.

If you want to help on the main weekend, the 27th and 28th I can use help then too, but I can't promise a ride back.  Each of those days, besides the usual ticket for 1/2 day worked we have a gun to give away each evening just for those who helped that day.

On another note, that match is full, but if you want to work the match I can get you in as staff. I'm kind of in charge.  No experience is necessary, but you will need to take off from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September.  We take care of our staff too.  Very well.
