June FunShoot

This coming Saturday, June 22nd, we will hopefully be hosting our monthly FunShoot.

This month we have a unique problem. Due to the event schedule this month, we have a much larger than normal amount of work to do to put this on the ground, and therefore, I need more than my usual 4 guys for setup.
I need commitments by a significant number of folks, either by commenting on this blog, or email to  ghswope@gmail.com by 6pm Wednesday evening for our setup at 5pm this Friday the 21st, or the FunShoot will be canceled.
With enough help, it should take an hour or so, match discounts will be given to all who help out.

Wednesday at 9pm, I will post the status.

MAMGC stages

Stages are posted on our facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/Mid-Atlantic-Multi-Gun-Championship

Sign in each day will be from 8:00 am to 8:30 am. You'll get your t-shirts and lunch tickets there. The match briefing will be at 8:45 am. We hope to be shooting around 9:00 am each morning. Our ROs are top rate and squads are no larger than 13 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday. We hope to be done by 4:00 pm each day.
Food will be available from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm each day and we usually don't take a formal lunch break. Eat when it's convenient or rotate out of your squad when it works for you. Lunch is included with your paid entry, and there is more food and drink available for everyone.
Please watch your speed on our driveway. The speed limit is 10 mph and speeding is a 20 second procedural.
Please do your part to paste targets and set steel. Be ready to go when it's your turn to shoot.
This is a lost brass match.
You can change your percentage (the 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100% thing) up until the first shot is fired the day you shoot. Do it at sign in if you like. However, because of this we will not post scores Saturday evening. We will post them to practiscore Sunday afternoon. We always use the word York in our matches, so that makes it easy to search.
If you have any questions about which day you're shooting or percentage or anything don't hesitate to email me at pauln1313@gmail(dot)com
Thank you for shooting with us. We have already set up some of the stages and it looks fun. We hope you enjoy it.

MAy FunShoot

This Saturday, May 25th we will be hosting our monthly FunShoot.

We will present you with 6-7 stages of falling steel toys of 20 - 25 targets each.

The setup crew is getting smaller so in an attempt to get more help, setup will be this Friday (the 24th) at 5pm. Remember, the quality of the event depends on setup turnout.

Fee will be $20 for adults, $5 for anyone under 18.

Signup by 8:15, shooting at 9ish.

Some Boilerplate follows:

Firearm choice will be standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine, or shotgun (7 1/2 lead shot or smaller). You may bring all 3 types (or more) to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns max per stage.
Yes, .22's and subsonic .300 BO are acceptable.

York is a cold range. Unloaded firearms are carried around the range holstered, boxed, bagged, slung, carted or in a sock. Long guns require a chamber flag, and they will be for sale.

Bring family and friends, we are very new shooter and kid friendly. Spectators are welcome!

Everyone on the range MUST WEAR EYE PROTECTION WITH SIDE SHIELDS. We will be shooting steel, and it creates little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion. There will be eye protection for sale.

May 4th Falling Steel

On Saturday, May 4th we will be hosting another Falling Steel match.  This match will consist of 4 stages of steel targets that must fall to score.  Each stage will have 25-35 targets and the shooter, or shooters, will have 60 seconds to knock down all that they can.  I say shooters, because it is possible to shoot this as a two person team, with both shooters attacking the same array simultaneously this month.  We will also allow shotguns (with prior approval) this month.

The cost is $20 for an individual, and the same for a two person team, so that's only $10 per person.

We've done these type of falling steel matches for a couple of years now and they are fast and fun.  There is no movement allowed and no holsters.  A minimal amount of equipment is required.  To increase your speed and have even more fun find a partner and shoot as a team.  It is a crazy good time.

This is a great match to shoot with your kid, spouse, or non-competitive shooter as a teammate, but it's fun for singles too.  There won't be any type of payout so what difference does it make?  Just be safe and have a good time.  That's how and why we keep the entry fee low.

We have 2 new divisions for this match.  TO Shooter's Choice and Open Shooter's Choice.  These divisions allow you to pick which type of firearm you (and your teammate if applicable) shoot on each stage.  Maybe a shotgun or two is better on one stage, where a PCC is better on another.  Mix and match til your heart's content.

Divisions include:

Stock Auto (10 Rounds)
Stock Auto 140 (140 mm mags, so up to 17-24 for most pistols)
Open Auto (red dots and 10 rounds)
Open auto 170 (red dots and 170mm mags so up to 31 +/- rounds with some pistols.
Stock Revolver (6 rounds and iron sights)
Open Revolver (unlimited rounds and red dots permitted)
PCC (Pistol caliber carbine, and carbine style "pistols" too)
Limited shotgun (with prior approval only)
Open Shotgun (with prior approval only)
TO Shooter's Choice (with prior approval only)
Open Shooter's Choice (with prior approval only)

All of these divisions may be shot individually or as a two man team.  Let me know when signing up and if shooting as a team let me know who your partner is.

If you have any questions or to sign up please email yorksignup@gmail.com

Please plan on being at the club not later than 8:15 to pay and register.  Mandatory match briefing will be at 8;45 am and we will be shooting 9:00 at the latest.

April FunShoot

(Please see the below post for the results of todays USPSA match)

And a little return to normal.

This Saturday, April 27th we will be hosting our monthly FunShoot.

We will present you with 6-7 stages of falling steel toys of 20 - 25 targets each. I still think this whole squadding thing is over rated, so we will decide Saturday if we want to do that.

Setup will be this Friday (the 26th) at 3pm.

Falling Steel match Sunday, April 7th

We will be hosting a Falling Steel match Sunday, April 7th, at 9:00 am.

This match is very much like the PSA Shootout coming up at the end of this month.  Expect 120-130 pieces of steel on 4 stages. The stages are 28 - 33 rounds of steel each.  Entry fee is $20.  The biggest difference is that we have some additional divisions where you can load your mags up, and we allow PCCs.

PSA Shootout rules are available at http://www.psashootout.com/docs/flyer.pdf

This is a centerfire only event, and acceptable calibers include 9mm, 40S&W, and 45 acp, as well as most standard non-magnum pistol calibers.  No ammo in excess of 1350fps.  If you want to shoot something different please ask when you sign up.

Divisions will include:
- Stock Auto (like PSA with 10 round mag restriction)
- Stock Auto 140 (like USPSA and 3 Gun you can load them up)
- Open Auto (like PSA with 10 round mag restriction)
- Open Auto 170 (like USPSA and 3 Gun you can load them up)
- Stock Revolver (PSA rules)
- Open Revolver (PSA rules)
- PCC - no mag or sight restrictions at all
- No shotgun or teams this time.  Probably next time.

You may sign up now at yorksignup@gmail.com now.  Email division and squad requests.  You should receive a confirmation within a day or two.

We will take a limited number of shooters.  This match will be fast.  We will start registration at 8:30 am, be shooting by 9:00 am and be done before lunchtime.

March FunShoot

This SUNDAY, March 31st we will be hosting our monthly FunShoot.  Yes, that is Sunday the 31st. March weather and events played absolute mayhem with our schedule, so there it is.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BE SLOW ON THE GROUNDS.  SATURDAY IS OPENING DAY FOR TROUT SEASON, AND THE GROUNDS WILL BE COVERED ALL WEEKEND WITH FISHERFOLK, KIDS AND THE OCCASIONAL DOG!

Last month worked so well, we are doing it again (besides, it's still set up). I got a lot of positive feedback so again, there will be no official squadding, just wander around and shoot what you want.

Pit 6: One giant stage with 3 plate racks, and all of the non-falling steel I can find, all in a line at various distances for PSA practice. Then we build a common firing line with tables. Shooters at the common line, to just plink away at will. No official organization. No resets (non falling steel here).
There will be a couple of wandering RO types about to keep tabs on safety.
The safety addition to this, is that I will require chamber flags for pistols on the line. Pistols, and PCC's here, no shotguns.

Pit 5: Man on man, or a big single. Our standard "2 of any 3 guns" rules for this stage will apply.

Pit 4, a classic FunShoot stage with a wheel and some falling stuff.

Pits 7 and 8 are full of water, if I can get them pumped out before setup, we will put stuff there.

Setup will be this Friday (the 29th) at 4pm.

Fee will be $20 for adults, $5 for anyone under 18.

Signup by 8:15, shooting at 9am.

Yes, .22's are acceptable.

There will be eye protection for sale.

cheers

York March 17 USPSA Match Canceled

Shooters,
We didn't get the early spring we'd been hoping for so we will not be having a match this month. The current range condition is poor and with more snow, rain and low temps expected between now and the 17th, in the interest of safety we've cancelled the match.
We hope to see you all on Sunday April 21st for our first official USPSA match since re-affiliating. Yes, we will be having a match on Easter.

22 Rimfire Precision Match 3/24/19

Match will be 80-100 rounds needed and targets from 5-200 yrds. You'll need to setup a practiscore account(it's free) to register. COF may simplify if weather restricts range access.......

York 3 Gun Match Canceled

Due to the unsafe range conditions we unfortunately have to cancel the 3 gun match.  We'll see you in April.

Sunday, March 3, 2019

March FunShoot is moved to March 31st.

See you then.

Egg Shoot results

Despite the cold and sloppy conditions we shot today and had a really good time.  Egg Shoots are simple, and don't require a lot of equipment.  That doesn't mean they don't require a good bit of skill, and you better know your trajectories very well.  Congratulations to Lou Levy for his win.  He hit 40 out of 40 eggs, and made it look easy.

Lou Levy 40 hits, 4 extra rounds used, 216 total score
Howard Thompson, 37, 9, 194
Don Vetter 37, 14, 191
Buddy Knight 36, 13, 187
Greg Harle 32, 17, 167
Gary Swope 23, 24, 139
Dave Williams 24, 13, 127
Chet Wise 23, 14, 116
Phil Matte 13, 20, 65

Everyone learned a lot, and I expect better score from many of us next time, unless it's windy.  22lr at 125 yards is easier when it's calm like it was today

Falling Steel match becomes Long Range Egg shoot next weekend

We had a Falling Steel match scheduled for next weekend but a combination of pit conditions and questionable weather have led me to switch the scheduling of the next March Falling Steel and the April Egg Shoot.

On Saturday, March 2nd we will be hosting an Egg Shoot on our rifle range.  This will be the fabled long distance 22lr Egg Shoot you may have heard about, but we've never done.  There will 10 egg targets at each of 4 distances: 50, 75, 100, and 125 yards.  You will have 2 minutes per bank on 10 eggs at each distance, and you may shoot from any position including the bench.  You may use bags, rest and/or bipods.  Additionally there will be a large piece of steel next to each bank that you may use for sighters.  However, the sighters will be shot within your 2 minutes.  You will be allowed to shoot up to 15 rounds at each distance and may use them all on the eggs, all on the sighter plate, or any combination in between.  Each egg you hit will be worth one point.  Each unused round will be worth one point.

The point of the sighter plate is that you don't really have to be 100% ready.  If you have a 22lr that will shoot, with a sight that you can see eggs at 125 yards come play.  This should be challenging, unless you're one of the 22lr PRS guys, and maybe even then.

Match fee is $20.  Discounts apply if you have earned them.

Set up will be at 9:00 am and we should start shooting by 10:00 am.  We will have this match if it's cold, but we will cancel for serious rain or snow.  We can hide in the stat shack and warm up and we might have a burn barrel or two in the parking lot.

To sign up email yorksignup@gmail.com and let me know if there's anyone you wish to be squadded with.

February FunShoot

And now for something a little different:

This Saturday, the 23rd of February, we will be presenting our Monthly FunShoot. Start time will be 10am, signup 'round 9:30am.

I visited a friends' range in Maryland, for their monthly pistol "blast fest", and had a ball, so I though I would try it out on you folks.

There will basically be 2 stages.

Stage1: One giant stage with 3 plate racks, and all of the non-falling steel I can find, all in a line at various distances. Then we build a common firing line with tables.  The idea is to have shooters at the line at will, to just plink away at will. No official organization. No resets (non falling steel here).
There will be a couple of wandering Range Officer types about to keep tabs on safety.
The safety addition to this, is that I will require chamber flags for pistols on the line. Pistols, and PCC's here, no shotguns.

Stage 2: Man on man, or a single Masochistic individual. We will setup 2 stars, 2 drop trees,  and whatever interesting falling things I can find for a Man on Man stage. Each shooter starts from the outside and works in, until the final double falling plate to determine the winner. Expect 25-30 targets per shooter. Our standard "2 of any 3 guns" rules for this stage will apply. If a single shooter wants to take on the entire array, well then that's just fine too (think PSA practice...)

I may do another stage or two, depending on setup help.

Setup will be this Friday (the 22nd) at 3pm. Success for this idea will be directly determined by the number of folks who show up.

Fee will be $20 for adults, $5 for anyone under 18.

My buddy's range had a grill fired up with hot Brats, 'twas a nice touch. No promises from me, but if someone is interested in being grub master for the morning.....I will supply requested food items for the master. Give me a hollar.

Some Boilerplate follows:

Firearm choice will be designated for the individual stage; standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine, or shotgun (7 1/2 lead shot or smaller) are acceptable. You may bring all 3 (or more) to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns max per stage.
Yes, .22's are acceptable.

There will be eye protection for sale.

cheers

January FunShoot, Saturday Jan 26th

The weather next weekend is looking stupid cold, but clear, so lets give it a go for something quick n easy.

There are several plate racks out in the bays now. We can add some easy drop trees and stars and just go a plinking for a while. I imagine it won't take long to get " cold enough".

Lets setup Saturday morning at 10 am (let it get at least a tad warmer).  We will throw out whatever the hardy souls that show up feel like putting out. When that is done, I'll take $10 (kids are always $5) for any one who helped out, and we will group up and go play.

Boilerplate follows:
On any stage, you can run any one or combination of two of the following guns; standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine or shotgun (7 1/2 lead shot or smaller). You may bring all 3 (or more) to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns max per stage.

Mid Atlantic Multi Gun Championship is open

This match is unique in the world of major outlaw 3 gun matches in several respects;

1. You can shoot the whole match in one day.

2. Prizes are all checks.  This means you don't have to stick around for a prize table.  If you shoot on Saturday you can go home Saturday night.

3. The prizes are generous.  We pay out 50% of the gross.  That is a lot of money.  Over $12,000 last year.

4. We give prizes way down the list in Tac Ops.  By using a modified Lewis class payout scheme if you pick your class correctly and shoot to the best of your ability you have a chance to win hundreds of dollars even if you are way towards the bottom.

5. We're about as far north and east as any major 3 gun.  Only Topton's team 3 gun is farther north or east, and it's a great match but it's not for individuals.  That's why we draw a lot of shooters from the Mid-Atlantic states, the northeast and Canada on a regular basis.

This 7 stage match will fill up quickly.  Do not hesitate to sign up if you want your choice of days.

Lunch is included for all shooters.  Additional food and drinks are available for purchase.
Shooters registered before 4/1/18 get a t-shirt included in their entry fee.
$125 is very reasonable for a major match.
