January 5th Falling Steel

Assuming the weather is not wretched, and right now the forecast looks peachy, we will have a Falling Steel match next Saturday.  We will use 4 pits, each with it's own plate rack, each at a different distance.  You shoot each rack 4 times and only the best 3 count for score.  We add the times up and that's the match total.  96 rounds required.  Extra shots possible.

For pistol the distances will be 9, 12, 15, and 18 yards.  For PCC the distances will be 12, 18, 24 and 30 yards.  All firearms will start at low ready.  30 second time out.  5 seconds added for each plate left standing.

Pistol divisions will be stock and open.  Open is any handgun with porting or optic sights.  Nothing else matters.   PCC will be anything not a typical handgun.  Centerfires only.  Start time is 9:00 am.  Please be a little early.

You may sign up now at yorksignup@gmail.com.  Be sure to tell me your name, division and who you would like to be sqaudded with.  Entry fee will be $20.

If you'd like to shoot a second division let me know that too. If we don't get 40 different individuals I will allow it.  For and additional entry fee of course.

We'll get back to more normal falling steel matches as the weather improves.  Ones with more steel, more options and even partners.  Our scheduled falling steel matches for this year are March 2nd,  May 4th, July 6th, September 7th, and November 2nd.  The September 7th one will likely be a bigger one with higher entry fees and cash payouts.

Be sure to subscribe to receive all our match announcements by email.  Just put your email address in the little box on the right.

November FunShoot

This Saturday, the 24th of November, we will be hosting out monthly FunShoot.  Expect 5 stages, about 20 targets/stage.

Boilerplate follows:

This is a casual, free form shoot. I will present shooters with targets, it is up to the shooter to decide how best to engage them, as long as it is done in a safe manner.

On any stage, you can run any one or combination of two of the following guns; standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine or shotgun (7 1/2 lead shot or smaller). You may bring all 3 (or more) to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns max per stage.

There will be a setup this Friday (the 23rd)  afternoon at 3 pm am. Any help is appreciated, it should take less than an hour.

Registration starts around 8:15 am Saturday, safety brief about 8:45, shooting soon thereafter. We should be done by 12-1pm-ish.

Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for kids under 18.

York is a cold range. Unloaded firearms are carried around the range holstered, boxed, bagged, slung, carted or in a sock. Long guns require a chamber flag, and they will be for sale.

Bring family and friends, we are very new shooter and kid friendly. Spectators are welcome!

Everyone on the range MUST WEAR EYE PROTECTION WITH SIDE SHIELDS. We will be shooting steel, and it creates little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion. There will be eye protection for sale.

cheers

October 13 &14 Head to Head Shoot Off

We will be doing head to head drag racing with guns. We will have a mirrored stage set up for two shooters to shoot at the same time.  It's a lot of fun if you've never done it. You will be able to challenge other shooters to a head to head bout.  A  bout is the best 2 out of 3 runs. The cost will be $10 per bout or $5 per shooter per bout.  Make sure you bring plenty of ammo.

Here's a video link that's similar to what we are doing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE9HSjw6UNU

On October 13 after the shoot off is finished (around 2:00)  we will open the course up to call outs.  If you are interested in calling out one of the guys in the top 16, Saturday will be the day to do it because some of them may not come back on Sunday. Just show up Saturday put the two shooters names on the signup sheet. It will be done in the order of the sign up sheet. My suggestion is to show up early sign up and watch some of the shoot off.

If you want to signup Sunday the 14th we will start shooting at 9:00.  To sign up for the shoot off email us at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name and the name of the person you are challenging. If you want to challenge but have not selected a challenger, just send in your name. Make sure the person you are challenging knows to be there. I will email you with the time of your shoot.  If you have a time you prefer I will do my best to accommodate.  I'm guessing around 15 mins a bout. Please show up at least 30 minutes early to your scheduled time. You should receive a confirmation within a day or two. We will run bouts until there are no more shooters or 3:00 If you don't want to sign up early and just show up Sunday that is fine but keep in mind we could pack up early if we don't have a big interest or it could be long wait times till your bout.

If you have any questions about the events of the weekend email me at yorksignup@gmail.com

"Lord willing and the creek don't rise"....

This Saturday the 22nd of Sept., we will be presenting our monthly FunShoot.

Expect 100-130 or more falling steel targets, in 6-7 stages.

Registration is from 8-8:30am, safety brief at 8:45, shooting close to 9am, we should be done by 1pm-ish.

Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for kids under 18.

There will be a setup this Friday afternoon Sept21st at 3pm. Any help is appreciated.

PA State Falling Steel Championship

On September 29th and 30th Izaak Walton will be hosting the first PA State Falling Steel Championship.    This match will consist of 6 stages of steel targets that must fall to score.  Each stage will have 25-35 targets and the shooter, or shooters, will have 60 seconds to knock down all that they can.  I say shooters, because it is possible to shoot this as a two person team, with both shooters attacking the same array simultaneously.

The cost is $30 per time slot and you may shoot as many time slots as you like, but only once per time slot.  You may even reenter in the same division more than once if you like.  The cost is the same for a team as it is for an individual, so that's only $15 per person.

We've done these type of falling steel matches for a couple of years now and they are fast and fun.  There is no movement allowed and no holsters.  A minimal amount of equipment is required.  To increase your speed and have even more fun find a partner and shoot as a team.  It is a crazy good time.

This is a great match to shoot with your kid, spouse, or non-competitive shooter as a teammate, but it's fun for singles too.  There won't be any type of payout so what difference does it make?  Just be safe and have a good time.  That's how and why we keep the entry fee low.

We have 2 new divisions for this match.  TO Shooter's Choice and Open Shooter's Choice.  These divisions allow you to pick which type of firearm you (and your teammate if applicable) shoot on each stage.  Maybe a shotgun or two is better on one stage, where a PCC is better on another.  Mix and match til your hearts content.

All of the old divisions still exist including the 10 round divisions that the PSA uses.  We have several more which allow you to shoot faster including the very popular PCC.

Another new feature for this year is to pay using PayPal (as a personal payment please) and email us your application.  Mail and checks seem to be coming obsolete, but we still take those too if that's your thing.

The application and rules are available at http://www.yorkiwla.org/pa-falling-steel-championships.html

We will take a limited number of shooters so don't hesitate to get your application in as soon as possible.

We hope to see you there, Howard

September 3 Gun Match sponsored by IWI

Update: The creek has returned to it normal levels as of 1900 Saturday. The match is on.  The rain will not stop us. See you tomorrow morning.

We will be hosting this month's 3 Gun Match sponsored by IWI, September 9th.  It will be 6 stages and all 3 guns will be used.  We will be using slugs, rifle and shotgun slings this match, and we do expect to use most of, if not all, of the 200 yards available on the rifle range.  The match fee will be $30.

The match day schedule is as follows:

7:00 finish set up (help is always appreciated)
8:00 registration begins
8:30 registration ends (anyone arriving after 8:30 is a spectator)
8:45 mandatory match briefing
9:00 shooting begins

To sign up for this match email us at
yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, division, and squad requests.  You should receive a confirmation within a day or two.

Don't take too long to sign up.  We do have a maximum number of shooters we will take for each of our matches and we do expect the matches to fill quickly.  Conversely, don't sign up if you don't intend to shoot, and if something comes up and you're not going to make it please let us know as soon as possible.  The Thursday before the match at midnight is the cut off for backing out without penalty.  People who persist in not showing up after signing up will not be invited back.  We want to benefit as many shooters as possible this season.

Thanks
