First Aid and CPR Training

For the past few months I’ve been working to set up some First Aid training at the club, and we finally have a date for the first session.

On Sunday August 7, IWLA will be hosting training classes inBasic First Aid and CPR/AED.  Both classes are American Heart Association certified and being presented by Bob Ganoe.  The cost for both classes will be $40.   This should cover the cost of course materials, certificates, refreshments, and lunch.

Basic First Aid and CPR/AED courses are four hours each.   We plan to hold BFA from 8am to Noon and CPR/AED from 1pm to 5pm, with an hour break for lunch.  All classes will be held at the Trap House.

Class size is limited to 6 people.  Additional classes may be scheduled in the future depending on interest.   If interested please contact Greg Senft at gbs702@comcast.net or 410-215-7140.

Also note that I am working with Bob to set up a Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) presentation.  This course was developed by Bob, so it does not include a certification.  It focuses on first aid for combat injuries such as gunshots.  This would be a 2-3 hour lecture with class size limited to 12 people.  Although knowledge of Basic First Aid is recommended, it is not required.   More information will follow on this course in coming weeks.

FN Set up August 21st

If anyone is interested in going to Peacemaker for set up on August 21st please let me know.  You do not have to be FN staff or even be shooting the match.

We'll be starting out there about 9:00 am and working until 4:00 pm or so at the latest.  We're setting up some stages in advance, stapling targets, moving some stuff around and preparing for the main set up on the 27th and 28th. I won't work anyone to death.  A lot of what we'll do is planning and measuring for the following weekend.

If you'd like to ride along in my truck I'll have a seat for you.

Benefits:
- If you're shooting you'll see the stages before anyone else, and have some input into their design.
- For every 1/2 day worked you get an entry into the staff drawing for several guns.
- If you've never been to Peacemaker it's worth seeing.
- It'll be good practice setting up a match.
- I'll buy you lunch, maybe dinner, water, gatorade, maybe even beer.
- I'll tell you the secret of 3 gun on the way back.  The one Greg told Kevin.
- I don't forget people who help me.

If you want to help on the main weekend, the 27th and 28th I can use help then too, but I can't promise a ride back.  Each of those days, besides the usual ticket for 1/2 day worked we have a gun to give away each evening just for those who helped that day.

On another note, that match is full, but if you want to work the match I can get you in as staff. I'm kind of in charge.  No experience is necessary, but you will need to take off from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September.  We take care of our staff too.  Very well.

Introduction to 3 Gun class Sunday, July 31st.

There are still a few openings for the one day intro to 3 Gun class we'll be hosting Sunday, July 31st.  We are doing this class to help those who have never shot a 3 gun match but are looking to get started make wise equipment choices, learn basic techniques, understand how matches work, and take that big step towards shooting 3 gun matches painlessly.  If you have your own equipment you can use it, if you need to borrow ours you can, you just have to pay for the ammo you use (in addition to class fee)  This class will be 6 hours long, with a lunch break (lunch is provided) in the middle somewhere.  The cost is $150 per person.  If you're interested please contact me as soon as possible at hkbrt@verizon.net.

July FunShoot

This Saturday, the 23rd of July, 2016, we will be hosting a 5 stage falling steel FunShoot.

On any stage, you can run any one or combination of two of the following guns; standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine or shotgun (7 1/2 shot or smaller). You may bring all 3 to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns per stage max.

Pistol caliber carbine means any standard velocity pistol caliber, in a small rifle platform; .22LR, 9mm, .357, .40, .45, 300 BO subsonic and the like.

Target count will be 100-125 ish. There will be little movement required of the shooter. This is a free form shoot, meaning I will present shooters with targets, but it is up to the shooter to decide how best to engage them, as long as it is done in a safe manner.

Registration is from 8-8:30am, safety brief at 8:45, shooting close to 9am, we should be done by 1pm-ish
Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for kids under 18. There will be no food or drink available, so bring plenty to stay hydrated and fed.

There will be a setup for this Friday afternoon, the 22nd around 2-3pm, email me if you are interested in helping out. This one will probably take about an hour.

York is a cold range. Unloaded firearms are carried around the range holstered, boxed, bagged, carted or in a sock.  Long guns require a chamber flag, and they will be for sale.

Bring family and friends, we are very new shooter and kid friendly. Spectators are welcome!

Everyone on the range MUST wear eye protection. We will be shooting steel, and it creates shrapnel, little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion.

Once again, we will be selling raffle tickets to support 31 Heroes,  www.31heroes.org.  This is an exceptional organization that supports veterans that suffer from TBI and PTSD.   What makes this one better than the rest is that 100% of the money goes to the cause, there are no administrative costs. This is a volunteer organization, run by some of the best in our sport.

The raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20 and the prize is a very special Sig Sauer 226 MK25 with 31 Heroes markings and the SEAL anchor.  The MK25 is the pistol carried by SEALS and has special features, including a longer barrel, and light rail.  Only 31 of these special edition pistols were made for 31 Heroes.

We are honored to have one to raffle off and we want to really make some money for this group and the people they can help.  The pistol will be on display Saturday.  Please be generous.  The pistol is cool, but it's really about making a difference for veterans who deserve our help.

For questions, please feel free to comment here, or email me at ghswope@gmail.com

July 3 Gun Match

The match is now full and we have started a waiting list.

We will be hosting our July action match on Sunday, July 10th.  It will be 6 stages and all 3 guns will be used.  We will be using slugs, rifle and shotgun slings this match, and we do expect to use most of, if not all, of the 200 yards available on the rifle range.  The match fee will be $30.
The match day schedule is as follows:
7:30 finish set up (help is always appreciated)
8:00 registration begins
8:30 registration ends (anyone arriving after 8:30 is a spectator)
8:45 mandatory match briefing
9:00 shooting begins
To sign up for this match email us at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, division, and squad requests.  You should receive a confirmation within a day or two.

Don't take too long to sign up.  We do have a maximum number of shooters we will take for each of our matches and we do expect the matches to fill quickly.  Conversely, don't sign up if you don't intend to shoot, and if something comes up and you're not going to make it please let us know as soon as possible.  People who persist in not showing up after signing up will not be invited back.  We want to benefit as many shooters as possible this year.
