Funshoot fun!
Another year done, hard to believe. What fun. It was a good day. The weather cooperated just enough, and we had 21 shooters compete for 20 trophies. It was good.
Here are photos of the winning teams. There will be more to follow. Scores will be posted soon.
First place team, Ben T and team K! Way to go gang!!!!
Incedently, the young Mallory took first place in her division, beating me. This family has got it going on!
Second place team: The Dr., Howard, Liz and Craig. Sorry Blake, your wife took you out!

Third team, but no slouch, Dave, Ed,Paul, and Bernie.
The point spread was less the 500 out of 3600 scored. The competition was steep!
Thanks every one who turned out. We had a good day, and a good year. It is you folks that make this happen, and I am proud to be able to make it happen for you. 2008 was our best year yet, ad I hope 2009 will be even better.
There will be more photos soon.
Get out of the picture Nick!

More pics from Sportsmans Festival
Gary at his post and a bunch of kids waiting to shoot. We made some money, but the real deal was getting some kids from non-shooting families an opportunity to shoot. They all loved it of course. Although the shooting gallery was my concept, and it was a great success, it could not have been accomplished without the guys and girls who pitched in last weekend. Gary has become more important around the pistol program than I have been the last couple of months. I'm not going anywhere, I've just been really busy. So be sure to thank him for all he's done. The pistol program would not be what it is without him.
Paul N. helping a little girl and her dad. Kids never forget this kind of experience.
This is "The table of fun." These were the guns you could choose from Saturday am. The table constantly evolved throughout the weekend depending on who was working. We do plan on doing the shooting gallery again next year with many changes. We'll need even more manpower so plan on attending.

sportsman and Family Fun Fest
If you missed it, you missed some real fun. From vendors to fishing to shooting, it was a good time. Not too late! It is still on tomorrow (Sun). Check out the schedule http://yorkiwla.org/id26.html.
For us, it was the shooting gallery. We attracted many shooters, new and used. Many shooters left the pit with a big smile, as they shot something new, or shot for the first time and liked it.
These pics are what it is all about, newbees from early on. These two young ladies left with not only a giant smile, but they both asked Dad to do it again, and they did. Watch out for these shooters in the raw, they will be competing in not so many years, is my bet.
This young lady is quite the shot. A first timer, with some excellent coaching from Howard and Dad, I am sorry to report, the Bear didn't make it, and she is 17 yards away.
Her younger sister is spending some trigger time with an airsoft gun under the tutelage of Paul N. We called on him to coach a number of rather young shooters, he really is quite gifted. Thanks Paul!

Incidentally, Mom and Dad had a friendly competition with a suppressed 9mm AR that showed up, and once I fixed the loose optics and re zeroed it, it was basically a draw...
There is sure to be more pics forthcoming.

Support our club!
The York Izaak Walton Sportsmens and Family Festival is this weekend. You should plan on attending. There is a lot going on. You really need to check out the club's website "click here" to see the scope of this thing.
The pistol committee will be running a shooting gallery back on pit 1. Come shoot a little or just stop by to say hi. You can even stay and help a while if you like. We'll have a wide array of guns and targets for people to try. Hours for the shooting gallery are 10-5 on Saturday, and 10-2 on Sunday.
Although we are primarily shooters don't forget we are part of something bigger. Our club does great work and offers much more than just our ranges.

What a day
Thanks to all who braved the heat, and the duration to shoot 4 stages of rifle and 5 stages of pistol. I think it may be the first time the water jug in the back has been completely emptied.
Here are a couple of pics, thanks to Paul M, There are sure to be more.
Paul S surveying pit 7 during the RO briefing, he has a good eye for setup boo boos.
A bear trap is a clam shell, and a lot of fun.
Spot on the table? Oh yea, we ned one, don't we...

Advance setup for next weeks USPSA is done
Many, many, many thanks to the dedication, and possible insanity, of the 8 of us that showed up. We pulled down everything in the back, and setup 5 stages in 4 pits of pistol action for next week, did some shed cleaning and general tidying up of the area. All that is left to do back there is the final calibration of steel on match day. Every one stuck it out for 4 1/2 hours, but it is done. A more dedicated and valuable group of folks there never was, if only there were more...
Sunday morning we have 4 stages of rifle to setup, sure could use some help, especially from the rifle shooters!
Thanks again to Paul, Tom, Kevin, Kirk, Scott, Mark, Ed and me.

I need help!
The Sportsman and Family Festival is coming up and I need a definite schedule of my help on the shooting gallery. It should be fun and it will make money.
I need volunteers willing to work in 2 hour blocks. 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, and 3-5 on Saturday. 10-12, and 12-2 on Sunday. I need at least 3 people on duty every shift. The work will be easy, but you'll be supervising shooters who may or may not have any experience. You may bring your own guns if you would like to let others shoot them, and this is encouraged. Applicable calibers include 22lr, 9mm, 40, 38 super, 45, 38 spec, 357 mag, and 44 mag. I'm not opposed to others, ask me. I will be supplying ammo, or reimbursing you for yours.
Think about it and let me know what shift or shifts you would be willing to work. Keep in mind that Saturday is Southern Chester, and Sunday is a Ravens home game.
Plan on attending the Festival either before or after and taking advantage of some of the things going on. For more info on the Festival go to http://www.yorkiwla.org/id26.html There will be a lot for kids to do, and they're really going to dig the shooting gallery!
