Scoop on the May USPSA match
Our May match has several details that are unusual so take note:
A. It is not on our normal match date. May 9th is a Saturday. We chose not to have our match on Mother's Day. We must keep our spouses and mothers happy.
B. The club is having a kids fishing derby on the grounds that day and they have asked us to start our match later in the day. The start time (shots fired) will be 12:00pm. Set-up wil start at 10:30am and signup will start at 11:00am and end at 11:30am. We must keep our other club members happy.
C. Speeding on the club grounds will be very strictly enforced. We may even have a speed trap on the grounds. Anyone caught driving over 10mph on the way in will not be allowed to shoot. Anyone caught speeding on the way out will not be allowed to shoot in next month's match. The board is unhappy with some of you speeding in and out, and with the kids on the grounds for the fishing derby it cannot be tolerated. Please be considerate.
D. There will only be one time slot this month. If we can't start until noon I doubt there will be any need for a second start, especially since it would be like 4:00pm.
E. Rob Burkindine will be our guest Match Director this month. I've been sharing the workload with several of our guys for quite a while, but Rob is designing the stages, picking the classifier, overseeing set-up, and doing the match briefing. He's also got a devious twist in mind for you sandbaggers.
Sign-up will not begin until May 3rd so don't jump the gun on us.
If you think you might like to bring your kids up early to take part in the fishing derby let me know at hkbrt@verizon.net and I'll get you more info.

Area 8 Multi-gun championship
After a lot of thought we have decided to change the the Area 8 Multi-gun championship to a single day format. This match will now take place on Saturday only. Competitors will no longer need to stay over Saturday night. We have also cut the match to 7 stages so we can complete it in one day. The enty fee will remain the same, so that we can put up another great prize table. Apllications are availabe at http://uspsa8.org/A8-MGC.htm although it is not completely accurate currently it is still fine. Sign up today there are a limited number of slots available.

Fun shoot poll results and the decision
The fun shoot poll results were very useful. Contrary to what Gary and I surmised a large number of people were very interested in scoring. As we expected a large number don't really care either. The number against scoring was rather small. The discussion in the comments was very good and we learned some things there as well.
The decision was implemented right away Saturday and seems to be a reasonable compromise. We are going to keep scoring, but it has been simplifed and more importantly not emphasized. If you want to keep score, and have them published that is fine, and if you do not that is fine too. 30 of the 45 shooters scored their targets and returned their scoresheets. 15 people took adavantage of the relaxed procedure and did not bother. We think this should satisfy eveyone and keep the fun shoot enjoyable for all.

Assault weapon poll results
We did well in the polls. The one at WGAL was 77% in our favor and the York Daily Record one was 91%! That shows that we are not alone.

Multi-gun class at York
Dean Deturk and I will be hosting an entry level multi-gun class on Sunday, May 31st at our club in York. Multi-gun is three times the fun of pistol, but is slightly more complicated and can seem intimidating. The intent of our class is to help people make the transition from handgunner to multi-gunner easily and quickly. We'll share our years of experience and teach you multi-gun specific skills and discuss equipment options in detail. We'll even let you you use our long guns if you don't have your own yet, or want to try something different.

New poll for Fun Shooters only
Gary and I were just conversing and we wondered how much it really matters that scores are kept at the fun shoots. We can see several advantages either way, but we want your opinion. Think about it and take the poll to the right.
We think that some people may be relieved if scores were not kept, and would be less hesitant to shoot if others didn't know how well (or poorly) they shot. It may be more relaxing. Less performance anxiety, so to speak. It would also allow some to shoot a little closer or farther than the defined distances. If there are no scores there will be no cheating. Scoring some of the stages also takes a lot of time, so perhaps the shoot would move along better without it. No scores would make life a lot easier on Gary and Mark for sure.
On the other hand, some people may really be into it for the competition, and without scoring they may have no interest at all in the Fun Shoots.
Please feel free to comment also.

April Funshoot
This months Funshoot will be this Saturday, 18 April. Setup start at 8:30a, registration closes at 10:00a, shooting about 10:15a or so.
You can email to iwlafunshootsignup@live.com to pre-register and do advanced squadding requests. We WILL be accepting walk-ons.

Things have been getting a bit sloppy, and I believe it is simply from ignorance of procedures, not blatent disregard of them. Round count will be between 100 and 150. All standard velocity, pistol caliber handguns that hold a minimum of 6 rounds accepted. There is NO carbine option this month.
As always, if you have any questions at all, please email me at iwlafunshoot1@comcast.net

"The VA-MD Section Championship is alive and well! The match is scheduled for June 12, 13, and 14 2009 at Fredericksburg, VA. 9 stages plus chrono, with a round count of well over 200 (stages still under development). Once again it will be the half day format. Lew Walker will be the Match Director.
The match has been posted on The Area 8 web site http://www.uspsa8.org/ and on the match calendar at http://www.uspsa.org/ and will be on http://www.fredericksburgps.com/ where you can download the application.
Match fee is $75, with Juniors shooting for $55. T-Shirts $15. The application has been on the web for only a few days and I have already started to receive entries! The match has filled up in the past and I expect it to do so again.
We need CRO'S, RO's and other staff to make the match a success. There will be a generous Staff package available for full and part time staff. Please indicate on your application if you will be available to Help at the match. We will need a crew for set up and tear down in addition to the match staff. This is your section match and if we all pitch in it will be a success.
