November FunShootS

York presents two (2) Funshoot events this month on Saturday the 25th of November.
Please read this entire, somewhat lengthy, post.

First, This Saturday, the 25th of November we will be hosting another EXPANDED VERSION of our monthly FunShoot.

We will be sporting 7 1/2 stages in the back pits. Target count will be around 100-125 falling steel targets, and an as yet undetermined foodstuff on pit 8.This is a free form shoot. I will present shooters with targets, it is up to the shooter to decide how best to engage them, as long as it is done in a safe manner.

On any stage, you can run any one or combination of two of the following guns; standard pistol caliber handgun, standard pistol caliber carbine, or shotgun. You may bring all 3 (or more) to the shoot, and you can change the choice of guns on different stages, but only two guns max per stage.

Registration is from 8-8:30am, safety brief at 8:45, shooting close to 9am, we should be done by 1pm-ish.
Cost is $20 for adults, $5 for kids under 18.

There will be a setup this Friday afternoon at 3pm. Please Email me if you are interested in helping out.
York is a cold range. Unloaded firearms are carried around the range holstered, boxed, bagged, slung, carted or in a sock. Long guns require a chamber flag, and they will be for sale. There is no carrying of loaded firearms, open or concealed.

The second event will be a 3 stage night shoot, consisting of 50 or so falling steel targets.

There will be ambient area lighting, but the targets will be in the dark.

Registration at 4:30 pm, brief at 5:00pm and shooting starting around 5:15 pm. Fee is also $20, $5 for those under 18.

This event will be subject to the following restrictions:
  1. This event is closed to new shooters. You must have a one to two year history with us, and be familiar with the ranges and the new procedures in the last year.
  2. This will be a pistol only event, and all pistols will be transported in bags, no holsters.
  3. All starts will be from a low ready.
  4.  This event will be limited to 24 shooters, and you MUST preregister, and be pre-approved by emailing me at ghswope@gmail.com
  5. All shooters will be responsible for targeting lights, be it gun mounted, hand held or headlights.
  6. All shooters must have a secondary hand held flashlight.
  7. All shooters will wear issued glow sticks.
  8. Spectators will be limited, and subject to glow sticking.
  9.  There will be other details to those who sign up.
Everyone on the range MUST WEAR EYE PROTECTION WITH SIDE SHIELDS. We will be shooting steel, and it creates shrapnel, little flying bits of metal that can hit you on occasion. There will be eye protection for sale.

I helped Gary with the dress rehearsal for the night shoot tonight (11/19), and it was a great time! I learned a lot, and had a ton of fun. You really want to try this if you're qualified. Thanks Gary for this innovation.
