If you shot the Topton 3 Man 3 gun last year, you'll understand this for sure. If not, you may still find this link funny.

January match cancelled
I regret to inform you that we will not be holding a USPSA match in January 2011. The weather is still too cold, the ground is frozen, and there are no signs of improvement before our scheduled date of 1/9/2011.
The Fun Shoot is still tentatively scheduled for 1/22 should the weather improve.

Noteworthy event
The York contingent arrived home this morning after shooting the very challenging Fort Benning 3 gun. Paul Nowotarski, Gary Swope, Brian Cashman, Jim Sheehy and myself all had a blast, and all shot respectably. The match was demanding and fun. We shot pistol, rifle and shotgun (sometimes all together) stages that included rifle out to 420 yards, and up to 22 slugs at a time, and trenches, and barbed wire and all kinds of crazy stuff. We got to shoot a SAW machine gun, an M203 grenade launcher and we got to ride in a Stryker.
But the big news is that our very own Greg Jordan (aka wonder boy, aka slumber boy, aka scarface) finished a very close to winning 3rd overall in a really tough field of competitors. He picked up a Remington/Bushmaster ACR off the prize table for his efforts. And he made it into the FNH shootoff where he won the first round beating Clint Upchurch and won a FN SLP shotgun. He lost the second round by the narrowest of margins to the guy who won the whole shootoffs.
His hard work really paid off and he is on his way to the top. A 3rd place finish will only encourage him to work even harder than he already does. Congratulate him when you see him.

Thanks
Our matches are finished for 2010 and I want to thank all of the shooters and staff who helped make our year so successful.
We're looking forward to another great year in 2011 and we already have some new things planned that should make it even more enjoyable.
Keep checking back here from time to time for the latest Yrork Izaak Walton news. I expect to post next year's shooting schedule very soon.

Tip of the day
Buy a 22lr converion or dedicated 22lr AR-15. I bought one of the S&W AR-15 22lr rifles a this year and I love that thing. It works all the time with all kinds of ammo, and feels just like and AR-15. All the controls are in the right places. The only diffence is it's a little lighter. A couple of my friends bought Tactical Solutions uppers and they are great too.
A buddy and I went out and practiced for a few hours yesterday for the upcoming rifle matches and we used our 22lr ARs the entire practice. We simply moved our scopes over to the 22s and shot just like would have with the 223s. We shot 8" plates at 100 yards from various positions, and then practiced movement and transitions up close on bigger steel. We shot over 400 rounds each.
The advantages are:
- Of course it's cheaper. We each saved about $100 on ammo cost for the day.
- We could shoot steel at 20 yards and not punch holes in it.
- We never had to wait for barrels to cool.
- No brass to pick up.
There are bonuses too:
- You can use them for Steel Challenge or Fun Shoots.
- They are quiet and kids and women like that.
- You always need another gun.
At $100 a practice how long would it take to pay for a $400 rifle or a conversion?
