It's a litle early to announce our next shoot, but this weather has me down and I want to shoot so bad I'm going to tell you about it anyway.
On February 13th the York Izaak Walton will host a stake shoot. This event will cost $10 per shooter, $5 for juniors. It will be a centerfire pistol only shoot and holsters and mag pouches will not be required if the weather is below 40 degrees. If it is cold, and it likely will be, we'll shoot from low ready and do our reloads off the table. Bring plenty of mags. 4 to 6 would probably be good.
There will be no prizes for this shoot. It will be just an excuse to get out and blow the rust out of our guns. Here's how it works: Show up BEFORE 11:00am. We'll figure out a pretty fair way (I have something in mind)to draw 3 or 4 man teams (depends on how many guys we have)then we will shoot 2x4 posts in half. 2 or 3 teams at a time. Fastest team to cut their post in half wins and moves on towards the finals, and we'll do it again. We'll be using a double elimination bracket or something so you can't get eliminated after shooting just once. In fact we'll probably redraw teams and do it again. We're going to make sure everyone gets plenty of shooting in. You should bring plenty of ammo. I would think 150 would be the minimum. 400 might not be too many if you play more than once.
If you've never done a stake shoot you can't imagine how much fun it is, and how quickly you can blow through a box of ammo.
This is a great shoot for the unexperienced competitor too. it is not necessary to have a safety check for this shoot and we will be performing safety checks for future USPSA matches on this day. If you need a safety check bring holsters and mag pouches no matter how cold. We'll keep it brief.
There is no advance sign up for this shoot. Just be sure to be at the range BEFORE 11:00am.

Izaak Walton
One question I get asked an awful lot is "do I have to be a member to shoot the matches?"
No, you don't. All of our matches and fun shoots are open to the public. However, you do have to be either a member or guest to use our ranges, or any other part of the facility at any other time. If you live in the area you may want to consider joining. Izaak Walton is easy to join and really a bargain at $100 a year. You could spend that much in just a couple hours at a private range. We also have an archery range, fishing, picnic grounds, trap fields, and more. Just as important as our club grounds is our mission: The Izaak Walton League is part of a national organization dedicated to pro-gun, pro-hunting, and pro-fishing conservation. We know that conservation means wise use not non-use.
If you're not a member but are interested in joining email me at hkbrt@verizon.net and I'll have you in before you know it.

CED 2011 MASC
Once again Competitive Edge Dynamics has agreed to be the match sponsor for the Mid-Atlantic Section Championship. This year they are selling us a tandem chronograph set up like they use at Nationals and other majors at a nice discount. So be prepared for it.
The match applications are flowing in at an impressive rate. If you want to be sure to get your first choice of shooting times I wouldn't wait until the last minute.

Insanity rules

When I pulled into the range this morning, the therm on my truck said "3". I thought "this is insanity'; interestingly enough, I was accused of that several times this morning...
We had a ball! 18 or 20 folks showed up, we put up some stuff and had fun, some of us brought many guns. It was grand. Sorry to those of you who wimped and missed out.
And the day was not just for the "burly men" among us, 3 ladies showed up to shoot as well, and they weren't "burly" at all...
How does that work for you, fellers.....

Top Shot Season 2
Season 2 of Top Shot starts February 8th. I really enjoyed the show last year, and recognized several of the contestants. This year there are several names you might recognize as fellow USPSA competitors, though there's no one this time whose number is in my phone like last time.
Check out the bios of the shooters when you have time.
