Outdoor Show Pistol Gallery

The weather was sketchy, but at the last minute, mother nature smiled on us and gave us sunshine. Thanks to the folks what showed up to help me with our second Outdoor Show Pistol Gallery, Kevin M, John Z, Ed F, Jim F, Dave W and Cindy N. I do believe a good time was had by all.

I have a few photos to share....

Can you say Toy table?

This couple must have tried just about everything on the table, helped out by Jim F

Dad here couldn't resist the Tommy gun, it was definitly a conversation starter

This is what it is really all about, the kids. Every kid that came by left with a smile.

This young man really impressed me. His eyes were bigger than his arms, and he was having some trouble with the Tommy gun. He had the presence of mind to tell me so, and we safed the gun, so he shoot something more comfortable. I know some full growed shooters that don't have that level of maturity.

How many kids get a chance to fire a supressed handgun? Again , more smiles.
Thanks again to staff and the shooters, and we'll do it again next year.

York Izaak Walton Outdoors show

The York Izaak Walton wil be hosting an outdoors show on the grounds Friday through Sunday this weekend September 25th-27th. Be sure to stop by if you get a chance. More details are avaliable at the clubs website. http://yorkiwla.org/id26.html There's a lot going on, come out if you can.

The pistol committee will be having a "Shooting Gallery" where people can come and try some of our cooler guns on Sunday from 11am - 3pm. We have enough staff to run it now, but I'm still looking for a couple more volunteers. Email me at hkbrt@verizon.net if you can spare a couple hours.

By the way, all ranges are closed Saturday and Sunday, except for scheduled events.

Back From Nat's

Well, Mark Rob and I are back from Lim, Lim10, Rev Nat's.

For the record, Rob B. took top C in revolver, way to go Rob!!!

For me, nationals gave me a new perspective on many fronts.

One of which is that we here at York are truly blessed.

There was nothing at Nat's, in the way of stages, that was any more difficult than the stages we shoot at York (well maybe the star, but that is another story). Hat's off to Howard and the entire York Team for putting on such high quality monthly matches. I now truly have an understanding of just how spoiled we are, and what a great crew we have. I heard from several shooters, of how difficult and overwhelming Nat's was. It was our monthly match (that lasted 3 days) for me. Please thank the Yorkies at every opportunity.

As to my performance,....well.....at least I had fun.

My DQ

Well, I promised I would tell you what happened to me at Nationals, and I'm tired of explaining it one person at a time so here's the story.

On the second stage we had to start facing uprange with hands at sides. I heard the signal turned and drew and heard the stop command.

The RO DQed me for breaking the 180 on the draw. I couldn't believe it. Still don't. But it's not an arbitration where you stand a chance, so I didn't.

Now I'm sure a lot of shooters who get DQed don't believe they did it, but everyone in attendance didn't think I did it either. I talked to one of the RMs who even said that guy was a jerk. Later he was removed from the stage from making too many questionable calls. But that still didn't get me back in the match.

The moral of the story is some ROs get off on disqualifying shooters. They can't shoot, and probably have no authority at work or at home so they finally get a chance to be somebody important and they do it by being a jerk. So you need to be extra careful to not give them a chance. Don't live on the edge. Be so safe that there's no way they can get you. That was my mistake. I was probably too close to the edge, and let some jerkweed get me.

Ben smokes 'em!!

Ben won B and was 2nd Junior. He won a gun and $600. He also is one step closer to a slot on the Junior world shoot team. Oh, and he automatically gets moved to A.

Greg finished 27. Which is really good for first time at Nationals.

Kirk was 107. Which isn't bad considering there were about 100 masters and GMs.

When I get home I'll explain what happened to me

Nationals update

Well the helicopter tour of the grand canyon went well. Then it all started going to hell. I got in a car accident in a parking lot with our rental car. No one was hurt. Today I got DQed on a bullshit call, but couldn't win an arbitration so didn't try. Wind and dust is a problem. ROs are idiots as usual at Nationals. Those who can shoot. Those who can't RO. Greg has been a little rough. Ben and Kirk not perfect but still alive. I can't wait to see what goes wrong for me next.

Hello from Las Vegas

Kirk, Ben, Greg, and I made it to Vegas for Nationals. We're flying to Grand Canyon today. I'll keep you updated

September USPSA match

Once again it is time to sign up for our monthly USPSA match. On Sunday, September 13th, we will be hosting a special classifier match. This match will have 4 classifiers and 2 long courses for a total of 101 rounds. The match fee will be $25. There will only be one time slot.

Sign up will begin at 9:15am.
Match breifing will be at 9:50 am and we will be shooting at 10:00am.

This should be a quick and easy one.

To sign up send an email to yorksignup@gmail.com with your name USPSA #, the division you'll be shooting this month and any squad requests. If you are sucessfully signed up you should receive a confirmation within a day or two.

September Funshoot postponed to Oct 24

We have found it necessary to postpone September's funshoot to October 24, the 4th Saturday of the month. This will be the last Funshoot of the year, so I hope to see you all there.

Since you won't be funshooting this month, come on out to the IKE'S Annual Outdoor Show, the weekend of the 26th & 27th.
The pistol committee will once again be hosting the Outdoor Show Shooting Gallery, on the pistol range pits 1 & 2, Sunday the 27th from 11a to 3p. We will be supplying all sorts of arms and targets for your plinking pleasure (please do not bring your own), pistols and carbines alike, from a .50 cal desert eagle to a fully suppressed 9mm carbine to a Tommy gun and who knows what else. Come by and play. Bring friends, and we are definitely kid friendly.

See you all at both.
