2015 Points Series at Izaak Walton - Updates in blue font

In 2015 we'll be running a point series.  We've never done it before, but we have some good ideas and we're going to give it a try.  We invite everyone who shoots our club regularly to join in on the fun.

There is now a facebook page for the series.  It is York IWLA Point Series.
 Link to Facebook page

To register for the point series you will need to pay a $20 fee.  You can pay it at any time, but our stats guy won't start keeping your points until you have paid your registration fee.  I suggest you pay it well ahead of time.

The matches that will count towards the point series are April through September.  That gives us 6 matches.  Your best 5 will count.

You will have to shoot Tactical Optics that entire season if you want to earn points.  It's just too confusing to use every combination of the guns we allow you to shoot at York.  The vast majority of our shooters shoot Tac Ops anyway.

Points will be awarded each match as follows.
1st Place = 20 points
2nd Place = 19 points
3rd Place = 18 points
and so on down to 20th place which receives only 1 point

Using your best 5 matches you could score a maximum of 100 points if you win 5.  That probably won't happen, but who knows.   I think you could get in with as few as 20 points total, so a lot of our regulars have a chance to make it to the top 16.

I've done some math, prove me wrong if you can, I could be, but, I figure if you get:
38 points or more you make the top 16
42 points or more you make the top 15
46 points or more you make the top 14
50 points or more you make the top 13
55 points or more you make the top 12
59 points or more you make the top 11
63 points or more you make the top 10
67 points or more you make the top 9
74 points or more you make the top 8
75 points or more you make the top 7
80 points or more you make the top 6
84 points or more you make the top 5
88 points or more you make the top 4
92 points or more you make the top 3
96 points or more you make the top 2
100 points and you are #1 guaranteed

In the case of ties, which are very possible, the shooter with the highest single match placement wins the tie.  The second tiebreaker will be second highest single match placement.  the third tiebreaker will be coin flip.

Only people in the Point Series count.  If someone comes in and wins or whatever they don't matter.

Sometime after we have match results each month we'll post the point updates on this blog.

After the end of the Point Series we will have a head to head shoot off, 3 Gun Nation style, for the top 16 point earners to determine how prizes will be awarded.  This will likely occur early in October.  We have not scheduled it yet, but we'll be sure to avoid Blue Ridge 3 Gun etc.

Rifle, pistol and shotgun will be used for the shoot-off.  Details will be posted in advance to all potential participants.

In the event a shooter(s) can't make the shoot-off we will attempt to bring in the next ranked shooter(s) to fill the lowest seed(s).  If any seeds go unfilled the highest ranked shooters may be given first round byes.

All of the registration fees collected will be used for prizes.  We're also seeking match, series, and shoot off sponsors and hope to add to the prize table.

The prize table will be designed with very little drop off from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. and we intend to provide prizes all the way down to 16th place.

If you'd like to be a sponsor please comment, and we'll get with you about it.  We're not looking for massive donations.  This is mostly a fun thing.  Bragging rights will mean more than prizes potentially.

The Point Series is now full.  Interest was much greater than expected.  We can't take any more shooters without sacrificing match quality just to make room for more shooters each month.  Payments postmarked by 12/16/14 will be accepted.  Anything postmarked afterwards will not.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

November Action Matches

This month's Action Match will be 5 stages, with about 124 rounds minimum almost entirely on falling steel targets (there will be 4 static targets, 120 falling steel, and no paper). 9mm will be the minimum caliber for this match.  No 22lr.

Although it is designed primarily as a shotgun/pistol multi-gun match you will be allowed to shoot pistol only, shotgun only, and pistol caliber carbine only.  I believe there will be a large contingent of carbine only shooters this match.  Kirk and I are shooting carbine and we challenge all comers. Bragging rights are at stake.

The fee will be $25.   There will only be one time slot 9:00 am.   This match will probably fill very quickly.  It is the last match of the year and we are only taking 50 shooters.

For this match if you wish to sign up you may email us at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, which gun and/or guns you wish to use, your division, and anyone you wish to be squadded with.

You may shoot one of the following options:

A - Shotgun and Pistol multi-gun - divisions include Limited, and Open (as defined by the FNH 2014 rules) -  expect about 60 rounds of pistol, 60 rounds of shot, and 4 slugs minimum.

B - Carbine (standard pistol calibers) only - divisions include Optically Sighted or Iron Sighted.   Magnification doesn't matter.  No mag restrictions in either division.  Suppressors are allowed in either division but we recommend shooting supersonic ammo so the timers pick up the shots - expect about 124 rounds minimum.  If you're not sure what qualifies as pistol caliber email me.

C - Pistol only - divisions include Open, Limited, L10, Production (10 round mags), Single Stack, and Revolver (as defined by USPSA) - expect about 124 rounds minimum.

D - Shotgun only - for you gluttons for punishment/ those getting ready for Shotgun World Shoot - divisions include Limited and Open (as defined by the FNH 2014 rules, and Modified as in the World Shoot Rules) - expect about 120 rounds of shot and 4 slugs minimum.

Please don't sign up so hurriedly that you forget to check your calendar.  Persistent no-shows will be dealt with severely.

You should get a confirmation email within a day or two at most, H-

Results for October Action Match

The results have been calculated since about 3:00 pm today, however for some unknown reason I have been unable to upload them to Practiscore.  Tomorrow I meet with my technology adviser who will undoubtedly solve the problem.

Meanwhile, I'll tell you the top 10 finishers in Tac Ops since I know some of them are dying to know.

Buddy Knight
Brian Cashman
Dean DeTurk
Howard Thompson
Bob Schemlz
Kevin Downing
Jody Snyder
Bill Hostler
Joe Padian
Mike Sherman

No doubt there's a couple surprises there.  The competition is getting serious here.  There is no longer room for any errors.

This match did fill as quickly as I expected.  A smart thing to do would be to "follow" this blog.  Then whenever a match is announced you'll get an email to your inbox.  Only 18 people are following right now.

Next month we'll be shooting shotgun and pistol.  We will take a few less shooters next month.  Expect slots to this match to be at even more of a premium

October 12th Action Match

UPDATE:  10/7/14 12:27am.   All of the rifle/pistol multi-gun slots are now full. There are still carbine only, or pistol only slots available.
Our October action match, scheduled for Sunday, October 12th, is a very fun and challenging looking match with some interesting options.

A - No longer available.

B - You may shoot it as a Pistol-only match.  It will be 5 stages.  The divisions for this option include Open, Limited, L10, Production (10 rounds only), Single Stack, and Revolver.  It will require about 130 rounds minimum, and we will allow 22lr.

C - You may shoot it as a Carbine-only match.  It will be 5 stages.  The divisions for this option include Optics, or Irons.  There will not be any mag limits in either division and you may use 22lr, 9mm, 40, or 45. Other calibers require prior approval.  The maximum distance will be 35 yards.  It will require about 130 rounds minimum.

The fee will be $25.  There will only be one time slot.  We will begin set-up at 7:30.  Registration will be from 8:00 - 8:30.  Mandatory match briefing will be at 8:45.  We will start shooting at 9:00.    I expect this match to be over by around 1:00.

If you would like to sign up please email us at yorksignup@gmail.com with your name, which option you're choosing, which division, and anyone you'd prefer to shoot with.

Keep in mind that our matches are likely to get really hard to get into, as we're cutting back to one time slot and we will limit squad size.  One way to assure you won't get in will be to sign up and then not show up.  Please don't sign up so hurriedly that you don't check your calendar.
